Statistics HELP NEEDED ASAP!!!?

Hi All,

I'm having trouble with a couple statistics problems!!!

A Television station would like to measure the ability of its weather forecaster. Past data have been collected that indicate the following:

1.) The probability the forecaster predicted sunshine on sunnny days is .80

2.) The probability the forecaster predicted sunshine on rainy days is .40

3.) The probability of a sunny day is .60

Find the probability that:

a.) The forecaster will predict sunshine

b.) it will be sunny given that the forecaster predicted sunshine.

Problem 2:

A soda machine dispenses soda into 8oz cups the population mean of the amount of soda dispensed by the machine is 7.9 oz. What is the population standard deviation of the amount dispensed by the machine if the cups overflow 1.5% of the time.

THANKS ALL SO MUCH!!!!!

P(sunny) = 0.6

P(rainy) = 1-0.6 = 0.4

P(shinelsunny) = 0.8

P(shinelrainy) = 0.4

q1a

P(shine)

= P(shinelsunny)*P(sunny) + P(shinelrainy)*P(rainy)

= 0.8*0.6 + 0.4*0.4

= 0.48 + 0.16

= 0.64

= 64%

q1b

P(sunnylshine)

= P(sunny)*P(shinelsunny) / P(shine)

= 0.6*0.8 / 0.64

= 0.75

= 75%

q2

i dont have the understanding of the belly-curvy thing, none at all.

a.) The forecaster will predict sunshine

The probability of a sunny day is .60

This mean the probability of a rainy day is .40

The probability the forecaster predicted sunshine

on rainy days is .40

on sunnny days is .80

Find the probability that The forecaster will predict sunshine

=The probability of a sunny day*

The probability the forecaster

predicted sunshine on rainy days +

The probability of a rainy day*

The probability the forecaster

predicted sunshine on sunnny days

=.6*.8+.4*.4=.64

b.) it will be sunny given that the forecaster predicted sunshine.

=

The probability of a sunny day and forecaster predicted sunshine / forecaster predicted sunshine

=The probability of a sunny day *

The probability the forecaster

predicted sunshine on sunnny days/

forecaster predicted sunshine

.6*.8/.64=.75
